Location

Villa Pilar is located in Campo Mijas, a well-established estate on a hill overlooking the coast towards Fuengirola, and the mountains towards Mijas. It is 3 kms from the coast, and about 5 kms from Mijas town centre ("Mijas Pueblo").

It is approx 27 kms from the international airport at Malaga. (Driving instructions are here)

Click on the link below; this will show you a satellite picture of the villa.  Satnavs are not totally reliable for getting to Villa Pilar - better to get them to take you to Avenida de Mijas and then follow instructions provided here.

Alternatively print a copy of the Microsoft map and show it to the taxi driver.

How to get to the villa

Most people will want to hire a car. However there are two main alternatives: taxi or train. Click here for car rental tips

By car - directions from Malaga Airport

NB. The motorway exits are numbered by the number of kilometres to Cadiz; the bold numbers below are the number of kms from the airport.

The villa is very easy to find and is normally 20-30 minutes from the airport :-

  • On leaving Malaga airport set the tripmeter. After the small roundabout keep to the right and exit right at 0.5 kms, with blue signs , initially for  Algeciras and Cadiz on the A7.
  • At 3.5 kms, exit right signposted Fuengirola and Cadiz, still on the A7.
  • Ignore turn-offs to Mijas.
  • At 18.0 kms take the right lane (A7) off the blue road signposted to Fuengirola.  Do not go onto the toll road (AP7)*
  • Go past the exits marked to Los Boliches and to Mijas,
  • At 23.0 kms take the next exit, at 210, marked "Fuengirola Cambio de Sentido" and immediately after the large Corte Ingles store.**
  • At the roundabout turn right in front of the Ford Victoria garage onto Avenida de Mijas.
  • Go up this road for about 1.5 km straight over three small roundabouts.
  • After El Coto, the hill becomes a little steeper, bends to the right, then sharp left at a small junction. 20 metres further on, turn sharp right onto Calle las Acacias

Congratulations! You have arrived!

Malaga airport is about 27 kms from the villa. Be aware however, that at rush hours, the road into Malaga often suffers jams which tail back before the airport turnoff, so give yourself plenty of time to get there

*If you accidentally do so, take the first exit, and follow the signs to Fuengirola. This will take you down to the A7 (N340) where you can turn onto the dual carriageway (signed to Cadiz/Marbella) and take the first exit.

**If you miss the turnoff from the dual carriageway, the next exit is marked to Coin. Take this exit, and use the roundabout to rejoin the highway in the opposite direction; taking the first exit (just after the overhead bridge "Las Lagunas"), you would then go round the roundabout through 270 degrees, in order to find Avenida de Mijas.

Satnav users: be aware that setting the destination as Calle las Acacias often brings up an area in Benalmadena, or a road in Calahonda. It is safest to set the destination as Avenida de Mijas (not Carretera de Mijas).

Directions – from Fuengirola

From the centre of Fuengirola, find Avenida de Mijas near the bus station, and follow it straight up the hill. Avenida de Mijas can be identified easily by the fancy framework over the start of the road.

Parking and driving in Fuengirola can be  difficult in the height of the summer – better to go to the western end of town to park. There are a number of underground car parks which are not very expensive.

Taxis

A taxi from the airport will cost around €40, and normally takes about half an hour. You may need to give directions when you get to Campo Mijas (see above). Malaga airport is about 27 kms from the villa. Be aware however, that at rush hours, the road into Malaga often suffers jams which tail back before the airport turnoff, so give yourself plenty of time to get there

You can order taxis by phone, which normally come within 5 minutes but may take longer in August. The number is 952 476 593 or 952 478 288.  Just tell them the address (they speak english) and how many taxis you need. Have someone wait near the front door otherwise they have been known to return to base. There is a taxi rank at El Coto. Some times you can get a 7 seater taxi, which is useful if you have a big group.

Taxis now generally operate on a meter.A taxi to/from the town centre costs approx. €8, depending on the time of day/night, and is more expensive after midnight. If you don’t know precisely where you want to go to, ask for Plaza de la Constitucion. This is close to the centre and the start of the pedestrianised restaurant street (Calle Moncayo).

Train

There is a train service from the airport which takes about 30 minutes to Fuengirola (costs under €2 each); then take a taxi to the villa (a further €10).

It is a half-hourly train service from Fuengirola to Malaga via the airport. It is very cheap but does take about 45 minutes from the airport to Fuengirola town centre.

Bus

There is a regular bus service from the roundabout at El Coto (5 minutes walk from the villa) to Fuengirola bus station (takes about 10 minutes). There are buses from the bus station to Marbella and Malaga and beyond.
